There is nothing to learn from this module. You have either to apply your previous knowledge or learn as you go by (which I assure you take a lot of discpline and time + affect ur social life).

Your group (at least one fella) is expected to have at least knowledge in:
    1. Web development (Includes client/server side langauage like Javscript, php, knowledge of framework like Magento, CakePHP)
2 Basic Business modeling (Competitive Environment Analysis, Feasbility Assessment, etc)
    3. Requirement anlysis (UML activity/sequence/activity/class/use case diagrams)
    4. Database design (ER or EAV)
    5. User interface Design
    6. Project Management
    7. Testing/Optimiziation/Deployment Strategy
    8. Software Documentation

    Teaching staff:
Lecturer: The time u met him can be counted with five fingers

Your project adviser is the main point of contact for everyone (In my time, they are all CS-trained)

Bao Yang: No comments as our group never interact him @ all
Kajana: Only meet him once when he stand in for our tutor. IMO, he looks out more of the technical aspect of the project.
Ryan: Our project adviser Very cool, nice and friendly guy. Easily approachable and best of all, always give good and sound suggestion...

    Personal experience

This review is meant for IS4102, the replacement module for CS3266

Like all 8mcs modules, this module has a bloody heavy workload. I intend to do 24mcs this sem but I had to drop 1 module because of the project. Only consolation is that the assessemnt is relatively forgiving, compared to IS3102/CS3214 and CS3215 (when I compared my experience with those who take the other 8 mcs modules)

The project have a slight focus on the business analysis and software documentation (My 3 report alone is already worth 45% of the total mark) althought the development work is also important (worth 30% of the mark) . The rest of the mark going to ur peer review, group progess and indiviual progress (so don't be a asshole or chao keng kia)

My advise to all future takers is that:

    1. If possible, get a good mix of people (programming gods, system architect who know a thing or two about SOA design, good documentators who have reasonable command of language + good in understanding what the hell is going on, UI artist, requirement analyst). It w would be the best if anyone have actual web develpment experience

    2. Develop good teamwork and communication among your groupmates. The last thing you want to happend is to find out someone drop the module at the eve of a deadline.

    3. For your concept/business idea, choose something more fresh.... The prof, in his own words, hates to see another amazon.com or ebay.com clone....

    4. Don't underpromise or overpromise ur functionality (Both is liable for mark deduction one)

    5. The prof and tutors prefer sound technical documentation, so make sure the report is properly done....

    6. Don't reinivent the wheel... Chose a nice, easy to use but yet scalable platform to build on. IS4102 is hardly a software engineering project

    7. Features that are designed and developed around adding value to the business/operation or and enhance the user experience is greatly prefered (and the way to get bouns mark) , not how many functionalites you have.

    8. Clean UI

Neverthless, this module have been an encriching learning experience for myself as I managed to learn a lot from my more experienced team member (especially in the lastest in system design and cutting edge ecommerce technologies).
